Most of the Chinese characters are made of sub-character components, which could be sematic, phonetic, or visual constituents within characters. In a character, the component that carries primary semantic cues of the character is the radical of the character.
Knowing 100 commonly used radicals can open up your horizon to decode logographic Chinese characters, one of the most challenging scripts to learn for the native speakers of Roman languages. In addition, teaching radicals/components can also significantly boost a learner's vocabulary learning potential as radicals are critical elements in developing memory mechanisms in the Chinese written system.
Follow the radical modules in the 'LESSONS'. Each module presents you the basic info of a target radical, then takes you to develop your recognition skills, and finally challenges you with a character learning task.
Click the samples below to learn the first three radicals. Or click 'LESSONS' to log in and start your journey to conquer Chinese characters.
